IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It is an internationally recognized test of the English language. It is the most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration.
If you are a student seeking to study abroad, you will need to prove that you are proficient in English. And you can do that by taking the IELTS test. Getting a high score in this test will increase your chances of getting the VISA.
The test has four sections: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. You will take four different tests for these four sections. You will be marked 1-9 for each of these sections. The final score will be the sum of all four test scores divided by four. These scores are called bands.
For example, let’s assume you have scored 6.0 in reading, 7.0 in writing, 8.0 in listening and 6.5 in speaking. Your scored will be (6.0+7.0+8.0+6.5)/4 = 6.875. Hence, your final score will be the nearest band which is 6.5.
Reading Test: This test takes about 60 minutes. There will be 40 questions and one score per question. You will get the highest band of 9 if you answer 39 questions correctly or get a score of 39. This is why band 9 is very rare. The following table shows what band you will get for what score in an academic reading test.
